About the book "Unto the Least . . ."

"Unto the Least" is a self-published book released in 2008 photographically documenting the work of Pastor Jimmy Dorrell and his ministry to the homeless at "Church Under the Bridge" in Waco, Texas. Jimmy and his staff are there under the I-35 bridge every Sunday come rain, shine, sleet or snow. Feeding the homeless, helping them find jobs, conducting health fairs and helping to meet a myriad of other needs in the community.
The initial printing was for 1000 books which quickly sold out. A percentage of the sales were donated back to the ministry. I was assisted in the production of this project by my wife, Suzann along with valuable consultation and advice provided by friends and colleagues Eileen Wahlstrom, Raytheon Systems and Dr. Errol Friedberg, UT Southwestern Medical School and countless other friends and family who cheered me on from the wings along with those in that heavenly unseen balcony.
Singer-songwriter Bob Bennett graciously contributed a collection of five songs on CD to accompany this project (You'll hear the title cut which accompanies the "Unto the Least" gallery). Bob kindly penned the following forward to the book:
"Although I co-wrote and recorded the song "Unto the Least of These" which provided some inspiration along the way for Mark and Suzann Smith, they have in turn done a great service to me. Even though the song lyrics are mostly a restatement of Jesus' words found in the New Testament (Matthew 25: 31-46), I'm still like most people. I drive over countless bridges, hurrying on my way to somewhere else . . . and I never look underneath them.
This volume is a pictorial travelogue of an unlikely place where an uncommon grace is found, one day a week, one person at a time. Because the Smiths have generously pointed their cameras at something so lovely and important, they've given me a glimpse of a community I might not otherwise have seen.
I'm grateful to have been a small part of the soundtrack to their journey and I commend them as trustworthy guides. I suggest you not hesitate to follow along as they lead you "Unto the Least . . ."
